Several hundred handwritten pages record sales from 1919 to 1920: customers' names, cuts of meat, weights, prices, and payments. Roast veal, chops, pot-au-feu, bacon, and offal follow one another in ink handwriting, punctuated by crossings-out and settled accounts. Mentions of deliveries to the hospital and a higher education institution enrich this collection, bearing witness to the dietary habits and life of a local shop.

✦ Origin: France
✦ Period: 1919 to 1920
✦ Dimensions: approximately 22 x 18 cm per ledger
✦ Material: paper, handwritten ink, and black-coated cardboard covers
✦ Contents: two completely filled ledgers, totaling several hundred handwritten pages
✦ Condition: rubbed and worn covers; pages with patina, stains, creases, and small tears

Set of two old handwritten butcher shop ledgers, bearing witness to French food trade in 1919 and 1920.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0893/1049/5053/files/20261030_154908_abbadf94-abeb-4b0b-a8e1-f770bd8f6074.jpg?v=1793436072
