Set of three antique bottles containing period pigments, from a pharmacy in Northern France ("Brouttel, 16 rue Gambetta, Caudry"). The bottles retain their original labels and a vibrant, still very vivid color: green, ultramarine, or vermilion, depending on the model. A handwritten label dated 1885 indicates a provenance from an artist's or drawing teacher's studio. These small containers illustrate the work of colorists and pharmacists of the late 19th century, where each color was ground and packaged by hand.
