A charming metal advertising pencil holder, bearing the double inscription "Manufacture de Chaussures" (Shoe Factory) and "Aramis Dardenne – 64 rue de Mars, Reims." This type of item was given as a promotional gift to customers of trading houses or workshops at the turn of the 20th century. The interior conceals a small, removable wooden pencil, and the end is fitted with a ring allowing it to be worn as a charm on a watch chain or keychain. A fine example of utilitarian advertising from the Belle Époque, at the crossroads of craftsmanship and commerce.
