Superb lithograph from the Manuel de Peintures (Manual of Paintings ), published by Veuve A. Morel & Cie and printed by Lemercier & Cie, Paris. This uppercase typeface, designed by P. Chabal and lithographed by Regamey, illustrates a naturalistic style inspired by Art Nouveau: each letter imitates tree branches, finely modeled with shading and verdigris nuances. A rare example of 19th-century ornamental typography intended for decorative painters and facade signs.
