Rare and spectacular electrochemical table lighter by Luminus, using an ingenious electrical ignition system with a Grenet cell. This type of scientific lighter worked through an electrochemical reaction: the large main reservoir contained an electrolytic solution of potassium dichromate into which a carbon electrode was immersed, while the vertical piston allowed a zinc electrode to be lowered to temporarily activate the cell. The current produced then heated a platinum filament located near the wick of the small side reservoir containing the combustible alcohol, causing ignition. A true concentration of Belle Époque technology, this lighter combines cobalt glassware, precision mechanics, and electrical experimentation in an object that is particularly sought after today by collectors of tobacciana and antique scientific instruments. This is the large format version, standing nearly 22 cm high.
