An intriguing Belle Époque balancing game entitled "Devil's Gate Game," published by MD in Paris. Presented in a cardboard box with a typographic label, this small puzzle is based on a simple yet demanding principle: simultaneously inserting a marble from each side of the inner gallery by delicately manipulating the box. The glass-fronted board reveals two symmetrical compartments in which the marbles roll, requiring skill and patience to reach the goal. This type of miniature dexterity game was a popular parlor pastime around 1900 and is still appreciated today for its ingenious mechanism and its typographic aesthetic so characteristic of the period.
