Antique Grey mustard pot from Dijon, made of white faience, with a beautiful black imperial coat of arms: a shield bearing an eagle, surrounded by a collar, on a spread mantle with a crown and symbols of power. A banner ending in tassels frames the arms and bears the inscriptions “House founded in 1777,” “Supplier to His Majesty the Emperor,” and “Eight medals of honor.” Beneath the name GREY is the inscription “Aᵗᵉ Poupon Sʳ à Dijon,” meaning Auguste Poupon, successor in Dijon: it attests to Poupon taking over the Grey firm while retaining the Grey trade name. The underside bears the cut mark “L.M. & Cie - Creil et Montereau,” corresponding to the Lebeuf, Milliet et Cie manufactory.
