A white glazed earthenware advertising jar, cylindrical in shape with its original flat lid, decorated in black underglaze. The lid features a rich heraldic composition with a lion and unicorn framing the royal coat of arms, accompanied by the inscriptions "Burgess's Genuine," "The Original Fish Sauce Warehouse," and "Anchovy Paste for Toast Biscuit &c." The address given, "107 Strand, corner of the Savoy Steps, London," corresponds to the London location of Burgess in the 19th century. This type of jar was intended for the sale and storage of anchovy paste, a highly prized condiment in Victorian England.
