Pretty white porcelain pharmacy and cosmetic jar with a black printed lid, designed to contain "Cold Cream". It bears the name of Sydney Rogers, Chemist, located on Osborne Road in Southsea (Portsmouth, England). Cold creams were one of the flagship products of pharmacists and perfumers in the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. They were used to protect the skin from cold, wind, and dryness. The particularly elaborate typographical decoration, with shadowed letters and arabesques, is characteristic of British productions from the late Victorian period. The documented presence of an advertising lid "Sydney Rogers Chemist Osborne Rd Southsea" in specialized collections of pharmaceutical jars confirms the commercial existence of this pharmacy.
