Pretty antique metal nib box from the company J. Alexandre, illustrated with a portrait of Alexander von Humboldt, a German scholar and explorer particularly admired in the 19th century. The color-printed lid announces "All kinds of Nibs" and "Double Cement for banking and offices," while the interior preserves a printed label reproducing an excerpt from a letter addressed to Baron von Humboldt and dated Berlin, May 13, 1858. This very particular decoration, both advertising and commemorative, gives the set a singular character. A beautiful antique stationery box, representative of illustrated writing supplies from the mid-19th century.
