It contained the special oil "Oil, Lubricating, Preservative, Special," intended for the lubrication and protection of equipment. The American supply marking P.O. No. (20-824) 44-46729.1 allows it to be dated to 1944; the U.S.A. 2-120 specification is that of this preservation oil used during the Second World War. A beautiful piece of US issue gear with an immediately identifiable silhouette.
