A rare prototype of an ocular prosthesis made of blown glass, retaining its original tube used during the mouth-blown fabrication process. These pieces were crafted by specialized glassmakers who blew the glass to form the globe and then manually applied the enameled iris and pupil. The long tube was used to manipulate and shape the piece during the torch-working process before being typically cut off during the finishing stage. These examples are therefore manufactured pieces, rare testaments to the expertise of ocularist workshops. Each eye displays different iris nuances and delicate under-glass painting.
