A large illustrated botanical plate from Henry Lambert's series "Les Orchidées" (The Orchids), featuring two clearly labeled species: Grabia galeata (No. 1) and Lapageria alba & rosea (No. 2). The composition combines elegant, fleshy, pendulous flowers with a dense inflorescence in dotted orange tones, all arranged in a highly decorative vertical balance. The chromotypography here allows for a delicate rendering of the gradations of powder pink, soft green, and ochre, characteristic of large French botanical plates from the late 19th century. Numbered Pl. 11, this illustration perfectly embodies the Belle Époque aesthetic, at the crossroads of scientific rigor and decorative art.
