This small enamel sign was intended to be affixed on or near a first aid box containing a hammer to break a window in an emergency. This type of signage was frequently used in public buildings, train stations, schools, factories or industrial facilities during the first half of the 20th century. Its miniature square format and directly enameled red lettering testify to a sober utilitarian manufacture, but one that is now highly sought after by collectors of old signage.
