A rare antique solid wood autopsy box, signed " Favre Paris ." This impressive medical case was intended for practitioners and anatomists of the 19th or early 20th century. Its two interior trays are designed to hold various neatly arranged metal surgical instruments : scalpels, a saw, forceps, hooks, scissors, and other specialized tools for post-mortem examinations and autopsies . Most of them are stamped FAVRE. The cross inlaid on the lid, as well as the inscription "Société Française de Secours aux Blessés des Armées de Terre et de Mer" (French Society for the Relief of Wounded Soldiers of the Army and Navy), attest to its official medical use, probably in a hospital or military setting. The case is in good condition, with an authentic patina. A rare and valuable item for collectors of antique medical objects or enthusiasts of historical curiosities.
