This superb round lithographed tin box testifies to the ingenuity of early 20th-century artisans. Produced by P. Paulin, a tanner in Saint-Claude in the Jura region, it was used to package a light-colored grease for the care and waterproofing of leather: shoes, car hoods, harnesses, and more. The manufacturer's naive illustration, depicting him with a pipe and crossed arms, enhances the object's charm, along with the highly expressive typography. A decorative and advertising piece emblematic of French craftsmanship of the era.
