An antique lithographed cardboard box for "Turmac Orange" cigarettes, produced by the Turkish Macedonian Tobacco Company. This iconic brand of oriental tobacco features a richly decorative aesthetic inspired by oriental art, with a stylized floral border and a central calligraphed cartouche. The inside of the lid displays a lengthy promotional text in English extolling the Turkish and Macedonian origin of the tobaccos, as well as the artisanal preparation of the cigarettes, typical of early 20th-century marketing strategies. The box as a whole testifies to the Western craze for so-called "oriental" tobaccos before and after the First World War.
