Charming antique box of John Mitchell's metal nibs from Birmingham, a famous English center for writing nib manufacturing in the late 19th century. This version of the No. 078 model is particularly appealing for its refined graphic design, combining repetitive turquoise and wine-red geometric friezes in an almost Orientalist or Art Nouveau style. The central midnight blue band, printed in gold, features imperial medallions and honorary mentions related to the awards obtained at the 1851 and 1855 World's Fairs. The whole has a very decorative aesthetic and testifies to the care once given to everyday stationery items.
