A very beautiful antique box of metal nibs from the English manufacturer John Mitchell's, a famous Birmingham-based company specializing in quality writing instruments in the 19th century. This particularly elegant version features remarkable black and gold typographic decoration on a deep blue background, framed by light blue and mauve geometric friezes in a very Art Nouveau style. The imperial medallions and honorary mentions "By Appointment to His Majesty" as well as references to the Paris 1851 medals reinforce the prestigious and luxurious aspect of this commercial presentation. The item is still sealed, which is becoming rare for this type of small antique stationery box.
