"Lakritzine" licorice advertising tin - Strasbourg

Pretty old lithographed tin advertising box for Lakritzine candies, made by E. Palée in Strasbourg. Its particularly elaborate decoration combines a heraldic lion holding a Swiss escutcheon, several advertising medals, and a composition typical of Belle Époque food productions. The reverse features promotional text extolling the qualities of the product made from gum, sugar, licorice juice, and plant extracts. This small box testifies to the dynamism of the Alsatian confectionery industry at the turn of the 20th century and is now a beautiful collector's item for lovers of old advertising and candy boxes.
