Stoneware bottle "Purple Black Ink - Edouard Devillers", Circa 1900

Rare antique advertising bottle made of fine stoneware for "Violette Noire" writing ink from the Edouard Devillers house in Paris. This type of container was intended for communicative inks used for correspondence and administrative work from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The original lithographed label, particularly decorative with its heraldic motifs and affronted lions, elegantly contrasts with the matte white stoneware of the bottle. The reverse bears the hollow stamp of the potter Paul Langeron in Pont-des-Vernes, a famous Burgundy manufacturer specializing in utilitarian and advertising stoneware.
