An elegant, finely chiseled bronze sculpture of a serpent , depicting an upright reptile with open mouth and bared fangs. The scales are rendered with remarkable realism, enhanced by a natural golden patina that accentuates the spiraling movement of the body. The interior of the mouth displays a green oxidation characteristic of antique bronze. This object is both decorative and symbolic, evoking protection, rebirth, or knowledge, and is typical of desk displays or cabinets of curiosities from around 1900.
