A beautiful typographic lithograph from the "Letters and Signs" series (2nd series) published by H. Vial around 1900. This plate brings together several illustrated sign designs for food shops and cafés of the Belle Époque: a brewery sign for beer , an amphora for wine , a liquor store sign, as well as a sign for tobacco, wine, and liquor , and a design for fruits and vegetables . The collection is distinguished by the richness of its decorative forms and its vibrant colors, reminiscent of the façades of late 19th-century café-grocery stores.

✦ Provenance: H. Vial, publisher
✦ Period: Circa 1900
✦ Dimensions: 43 × 32.5 cm
✦ Material: Color lithograph on laid paper
✦ Condition: Good overall condition, slight signs of age and minor foxing, colors well preserved. Tear in the right margin without affecting the image.

A fine example of graphic art applied to commercial signage – ideal for decorative framing or a collection on the art of lettering.
