Decorative alphabet “THEATRE” – Letters and signs

Decorative alphabet “THEATRE” – Letters and signs

0,00 € Déjà adopté

A superb plate from the Letters and Signs series (2nd series) , published by H. Vial, successor to Ch. Juliot in Dourdan around 1900. Featuring a monumental alphabet adorned with the word THEATRE , this design illustrates the aesthetics of signs and storefronts in the world of entertainment at the turn of the century. The letters, drawn in red and shaded in green, are enhanced with plant motifs and operatic instruments, symbols of the arts and the stage. This typographic style, both solemn and decorative, was typical of Parisian signs dedicated to the dramatic arts, café-concerts, and theaters of the Belle Époque.
