Old small amber glass pharmaceutical bottle from the Pharmacie Principale H. Canonne, boulevard Sébastopol in Paris. Beautiful original light blue paper label bearing the inscription "Liquefied Carbolic Acid - Liquid Phenol (Codex)", with dosage indication for the preparation of carbolated water. Carbolic acid (phenol) was widely used from the late 19th century as an antiseptic and medical disinfectant, particularly after Lister's work on antisepsis. This type of bottle was intended for pharmacies and extemporaneous preparations.
