Presented in its original cylindrical packaging with printed instructions, this rare pharmaceutical tube contained 15 antiseptic tablets formulated by Dr. A. Guillaumin, a pharmacist in Paris. Used for water sterilization (1 tablet per 1 to 2 liters), this remedy contained mercuric oxycyanide, a poison then commonly used for its bactericidal properties. Both the secondary cardboard tube and the primary glass tube with a cork stopper are marked with the word "POISON" in bright red, highlighting the toxic nature of this treatment. A fascinating and rare piece of period medical equipment.
