A four-page musical leaflet published in Paris by C. Joubert, 25 rue d'Hauteville , with lyrics by Frédéric Deleau and music by Antonin Louis . First performed by Émile Duhem at the Eldorado and later by Perrin at the Ambassadeurs, this humorous song perfectly captures the spirit of Parisian café-concerts during the Belle Époque . The lithographed cover, signed Draner , depicts a grotesque soldier with a bewildered expression – typical of late 19th-century popular satire.
