An antique optical instrument for eye examinations, preserved in its rigid black-covered case with a molded brown velvet interior. The set includes a circular screen with a small central aperture (pinhole) mounted on a detachable handle, and a lens. The pinhole allowed for testing visual acuity by reducing optical aberrations, a classic method used by ophthalmologists and opticians to distinguish refractive errors from other eye conditions. The separate lens, marked "13," is likely a test lens used during the examination. This type of small, portable instrument was commonly used in opticians' and ophthalmologists' offices during the first half of the 20th century.
