A charming little dexterity game from the Belle Époque, entitled "The Ring of Happiness," published by JFJ Paris. Presented in a cardboard box with lithographed decoration, this game involves sliding a metal ring over several pegs fixed inside the box using a slight rocking motion. The game board is decorated with animal illustrations typical of popular imagery from the turn of the century—an owl, a bat, a raven, and a spider—which give the whole piece a playful and slightly mysterious character. This type of small dexterity puzzle, very popular in salons and fairs around 1900, appeals to collectors today for its simple mechanism and the freshness of its chromolithography.
