This remarkable 89-page handwritten collection is a unique graphic work, created in India ink and partially enhanced with washes. Signed D. Breton , it is part of the teaching provided by Jean Lavedan, at the Sonrel workshop of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris , was a renowned architectural historian and teacher. The content presents a systematic study of Western religious architecture, with plans, elevations, sections, decorative details, and classifications, all handwritten in a rigorous and academic style.
The whole is an exceptional testimony to the pedagogy of the Beaux-Arts on the eve of the major reforms of architectural education. An object of study, but also a graphic work in its own right , this notebook combines erudition, technical precision and the beauty of gesture.
