This rare police report, written by a mounted gendarme in the Orne department and dated September 15, 1892, documents a theft of alfalfa in a field. The document, printed and filled out in brown ink, contains a precise account of the events, the statements of the victim (named Lafosse), and the observations of gendarmes Cosnard and Marcel Alphonse. On the reverse side, there is a separate handwritten note, written in 1919 in brown ink, concerning the rules for allocating military bicycles—likely a reused copy by another officer. A document that is at once administrative, historical, and human.
