A rare box of Conté à Paris – Alaska pencils , model no. 1840, recognizable by its green typography and understated Art Nouveau industrial-style label. The inscription "À mine communicative extra" (Extra Communicative Lead) is typical of the late 19th century, a period when Conté touted the quality of its graphite leads and their smooth writing experience. The sliding box still contains its six original pencils, lacquered dark green with gold markings "Conté à Paris – Alaska".
