An antique enameled metal watercolor box , compact in size with 18 compartments, still containing 9 pans, some quite partially used. The inside of the white lid served as a palette, still stained with numerous shades of pigment. The black metal exterior displays a beautiful patina from use. Typical of drawing materials used by artists or students of decorative arts from the early to mid-20th century, this type of box evokes the charm of a nomadic, attentive, and meticulous painting practice.
