Old enameled plate bearing the inscription "VERT CHRÔME MOY." (MEDIUM CHROME GREEN), from a set of enameled plates that equipped the drawers of an old paint dealer's cabinet. Chrome green was a green pigment marketed in the 19th century, generally obtained by combining chrome yellow and Prussian blue; different shades were offered, including "medium" chrome greens. Paint dealers supplied pigments, paints, and various raw materials to painters, decorators, and artisans; their drawer cabinets allowed these numerous powders and preparations to be stored separately, with each compartment identified by a plate like this one.
