An old dark blue enameled tin sign bearing the inscription "DÉFENSE DE LAVER A LA FONTAINE" (DO NOT WASH AT THE FOUNTAIN) in large white letters on two lines. Pierced with four mounting holes at the corners, it evokes old rules for using fountains. Its graphic contrast, small size, and marked patina make it a decorative piece to humorously repurpose near a sink, in a laundry room, or next to a garden fountain.
✦ Estimated period: Early 20th century ✦ Origin: France ✦ Dimensions: approx. 20 × 15 cm ✦ Material: Enameled tin ✦ Condition: chips and enamel loss at the corners and edges, oxidation particularly around the fasteners, marks and wear in the center; inscription remains clearly legible.
An old enameled fountain sign, with a patinated blue and white design, for a home or garden decoration full of character.
