This old enamelled sheet metal sign was used to identify various water points in public buildings, industrial establishments, schools, hospitals, or hotels in the first half of the 20th century. Its extremely simple design, consisting of black stencil lettering on an enamelled white background, served a purely utilitarian function. The four original holes allowed for direct attachment to a wall, partition, or in the immediate vicinity of the relevant washbasin.
