This fine glazed stoneware cream pot is a testament to the Scottish dairy industry at the turn of the 20th century. It bears the advertising inscription for the Galloway Creamery of Stranraer, in southwest Scotland, as well as the mention "Preserved Cream." This type of container was used for the sale of sterilized or preserved cream before the widespread use of metal packaging and industrial glass. The black printed decoration, combined with the slender silhouette of the bottle and the stylized leaf, makes it a beautiful object of antique food advertising, particularly sought after by collectors of British dairy pots. Identical examples are preserved in Scottish and British museum collections.
