An antique white porcelain advertising jar from the famous house of Roger & Gallet, intended to contain "Bitter Almond Cream for Beards." The black-printed lid bears the historic address of 38 rue d'Hauteville in Paris, used by the company after its establishment on these premises in the 19th century. This type of container was sold in barber shops and perfumeries of the Belle Époque for beard and shaving care. Its sober and elegant typographic decoration perfectly illustrates the beginnings of French cosmetic marketing.
