Rare and attractive antique printed cardboard advertising card for V. Pellecuer's Chinese Biscuits , a manufacturer located in Nîmes (Gard), on the road to Uzès . The lithographed lid displays mentions of awards obtained at the end of the 19th century (medals and diplomas 1888–1889) surrounding the name of the Pellecuer company.
The sides are richly illustrated with scenes and characters inspired by the exoticism and travel that were so popular at the time: Japan, the pyramids of Egypt, oriental scenes, and decorative figures. This complete polychrome decoration on all sides makes it a fine example of Belle Époque advertising packaging . These illustrated cardboard boxes were used for selling and displaying fine biscuits in grocery or confectionery shops. Today, they are sought after for collections of antique advertising, food packaging, and Orientalist imagery .
