A large Dundee jar in the unusual 2 lb size, originally used for family stores of James Keiller & Sons marmalade. This larger volume, compared to the standard 1 lb jars, is distinguished by its tall silhouette and the wider, more elaborate design of its decoration. These large jars were commonly repurposed in Victorian kitchens as multi-purpose containers, which explains their frequent presence in period homes. The white earthenware with black printing, the inscription “Prize Medal for Marmalade – London 1862,” and the wreath of leaves make it an iconic example of late 19th-century English advertising containers.
