An antique corkscrew with a turned wooden transverse handle, mounted on a central iron rod with a progressive helical spring system and integrated worm. This type of mechanism, known as an external spiral spring, appeared in the second half of the 19th century and became widespread in Europe until the very beginning of the 20th century. The principle involves compressing the spring to accompany the rotation of the worm, facilitating the extraction of the cork without a lever or bell. The entire piece, except for the handle, is made of metal and exhibits robust, utilitarian construction, typical of household and tavern tools of the period. The even patina, wear on the wood, and old oxidation confirm its long use.
