An old cardboard box containing 13 tubes of vitreous pigments , manufactured by A. LACROIX & Cie in Paris , a company founded in 1855. Each tube is carefully labeled in French, German, and English with the indicated color, and most are full or nearly full. These pigments were used for painting on earthenware and ceramics, particularly in the workshops of artisans and artists specializing in vitreous decoration. Among the pigments included are several shades that are rare or no longer manufactured, such as "Chinese Yellow," "Black Raven," and shades of deep blue and aquamarine with chrome, evidence of an old technical and historical palette.
