The still water, the sinuous stems, and the gentle gaze reflect the Symbolist influence and refined taste of the Belle Époque. Originally conceived as a decorative model for poster artists, engravers and ceramists , this lithograph illustrated the link between art and nature, so dear to the creators of 1900.
